What is a clinical trial?

Clinical research is essential to the work of medical device companies like ours. But how does clinical research actually work?
In today's episode of #ThinkClinical we talk about clinical trials, a key component of medical research.
We have:
- Clinical follow-up studies: studies that provide evidence on the safety, performance and survival of the prosthesis. Patients are followed for a certain period of time after joint replacement.
- Studies to describe joint kinematics, such as fluoroscopic analysis (used to determine the three-dimensional position of a prosthesis during a specific joint movement) or gait analysis, which records gait parameters.
- Implant stability studies: allow us to understand the stability of an implanted prosthesis by analysing the micro-movements of the prosthesis, e.g. RSA
- Studies to determine bone remodelling after joint arthroplasty by measuring bone mineral density in the host bone surrounding the implant.
